United Kingdom: Barley crop expected at up to 7.4 mln tonnes

The UK’s expected barley crop is 7.3 – 7.4 mln tonnes, of which winter barley 2.6 mln (with selected malting barley of 0.2 mln) and which spring barley 2.7 mln tonnes (with selected malting barley (on paper) of up to 100% (which is doubtful), H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their October report.

Domestic barley needs are estimated at 4.5 mln tonnes of feed barley and 0.2 mln tonnes of 2-row winter malting and 1.65 mln tonnes of 2-row spring barley.

The export surplus (feed and malting) is seen at 1.05 mln tonnes. In 2020/21, the UK exported 1.05 mln tonnes to the EU and 235 thousand tonnes to other countries.
