EU: Barley export shipments start well in 2021/22

EU’s barley export shipments started well, July – August 30 saw 2.115 mln tonnes exported vs. 1.6 mln a year ago, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their September report.

The EU Black Sea countries shipped 1.13 mln tonnes, of which Romania 1.03 and Bulgaria 0.1 mln. Romania has harvested a record crop of 2.1 mln tonnes vs. 1.12 mln in 2020, its export surplus is put at 1.7 mln tonnes.

France shipped 640 thousand tonnes, Germany 333 thousand. Main destinations for the EU barley over the reporting period were China (600 thousand tonnes), Saudi Arabia (with 370 thousand), and Turkey (with 300 thousand tonnes).
