Brewing news USA, NV: Huntsman Brewing ready to open its doors on September 3

A pioneer of craft brewing that opened in Midtown Reno over 20 years ago and shuttered during the pandemic is reopening on Friday, September 3 with a new name and young brewers at the helm, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported.

The old Silver Peak Brewery and Restaurant at 124 Wonder St. will henceforth be known as Huntsman Brewing when its doors swing open at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 3.

According to a statement on Huntsman's website, "The Prophecy of Huntsman Brewing is Fulfilled on Sept. 3rd. Found on unmarked trails, Huntsman Brewing awaits those curious souls searching for their next craft brew adventure. Tucked behind high walls, divine nectar is forged from fiery cauldrons by mystical masters. Let your primal senses awaken to its power. Venture forth in great haste once the stars align and the gates open."

True to tale, master brewer Nick Taylor will wield the sorcerer's spoon and perform the dark arts of lagers, ales, sours and milk stouts. Thirsty patrons can order Huntsman's brews, such as Misty Mountains Milkshake and Cream Ale, in pints, half pints and growler-size 64 ounce fills.

Tim Turner, owner of Huntsman Tavern in Sparks, and a group of his friends spent much of the summer revamping the old Silver Peak property themselves. The Huntsman crew pride themselves on self-sufficiency, making their own pickles, venison sausage and sauces from scratch.

Turner and company hope the tavern, housed in one of Reno's oldestbuildings, will become the "premier dart establishment" in town, as it will host league and in-house tournaments throughout the year.

Turner and company have faith in their beer and business, even though many local restaurant and bars are struggling to stay afloat.

The tavern's slogan, "The beer is boss," was born when Turner interviewed Nick Taylor for the master brewer job. It's a philosophy that the Huntsman crew hopes will carry the brand through.

"As soon as I told him that, everything clicked," Taylor said. "The beer tells us when it's ready."
