Brewing news UK: Beer sales down 14.5% last year but seem to have recovered after end of lockdown

Beer sales in the U.K. dropped by 14.5% in 2020. Total malt requirements dropped by 11.8%, of which only by 10% for the distilling industry, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their July report.

Barley use for malt production in July 2020 - April 2021 was 1.4 mln tonnes, still 9.4% lower than a year ago. By now the malt industry is back to full capacity use.

Beer and whisky sales recovered after the end of lockdown and the elimination of the U.S. penalty tax on Scotch whisky, local sources reported.
