Hops news USA: Hop acreage strung for harvest this year up 4% from 2020

Hop acreage strung for harvest in 2021 for Washington, Oregon, and Idaho is forecast at a record high 60,735 acres, 4 percent more than last year’s previous record of 58,641 acres, USDA reported on June 10.

Washington, with 43,380 acres for harvest, accounts for 71 percent of the total United States acreage. Idaho area strung for harvest was 9,784 acres, or 16 percent of the United
States total. Oregon hop growers accounted for the remaining 13 percent, or 7,571 acres. Acreage increased from last year in all three states.

The top five hop varieties strung for harvest in the United States this year are Citra, Mosaic, Columbus/Tomahawk/Zeus (CTZ), Cascade, and Simcoe. These five varieties account for 53 percent of the total U.S. acreage.
