EU: Barley crop to increase to 56.299 mln tonnes in 2021/22

EU Commission’s Barley Supply and Demand Balance of March 25, 2021 forecasts the EU-27 barley crop to reach 56.299 mln tonnes in 2021/22, up from 54.724 mln in 2020/21 and from 55.024 mln tonnes in 2019/20..

Imports are seen higher too – at 1.249 mln tonnes vs. 1 mln in 2020/21. Consumption is forecast to increase to 44.762 mln tonnes from 44.421 mln in 2020/21.

The EU is expected to reduce barley shipments (including malt) in the coming crop year to 9.32 mln tonnes as compared to 10.5 mln tonnes in 2020/21.

Ending stocks are forecast to increase sharply to 8.612 mln tonnes from 5.146 mln in 2020/21.
