EU: Barley production forecast to total 54.715 mln tonnes this crop year
According to the EU Commission’s Barley Supply and Demand Balance of February 25, the EU-27 barley production is forecast to reach 54.715 mln tonnes in 2020/21, down from the 55.024 mln harvested in 2019/20.
Imports are forecast to drop to 1 mln tonnes from 1.893 mln last season.
The EU barley consumption, on the contrary, is expected to increase to 44.321 mln tonnes from 44.022 mln tonnes in 2019/20.
Exports are forecast to stay flat – at 10.5 mln tonnes vs. 10.501 mln last marketing year.
Total ending stocks of barley in the 27 countries of the EU are forecast at 5.246 mln tonnes versus 4.353 mln tonnes in 2019/20.
