Mexico: Beer production, exports decline in January-October last year
Mexicos beer output over the first ten months of 2020 totalled 96.6 mln hl 8.4% less than over the same period in 2019, local media reported.
The first drop in volume since 2014 is explained by the stop of production in April-May last year, when the government tried to stop the spread of COVID-19 by shutting down all production deemed non-essential.
Mexicos beer production grew by an average 6.7% per year between 2013 and 2019.
Export in January-October 2020 dropped by 11.9% to 30.8 mln hl versus the average annual increase of around 13.1% between 1993 and 2019. In 2019, the nation exported USD4.9 mln worth of beer and imported USD94 mln worth of it. Mexico has been the worlds leading beer exporter since 2010.
