Russia & Ukraine: Russia harvests very good crops this year, Ukraine ships almost all of its barley surplus by November
Russia harvested very good grain crops, so the Agriculture Ministry announced an increase of the 2021 wheat export quota from 15 to 17.5 mln tonnes, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in December.
Barley exports till late November were 3.3 (last year 1.7) mln tonnes. Russian barley as of early December was quoted at USD 217 per tonne, very competitive against Ukrainian and EU barley.
In Ukraine, summer crops were affected by dryness, the corn crop dropped by 8 mln tonnes from last year to 28 29 mln tonnes.
The Ukrainian barley surplus has been estimated at 4 mln tonnes; export shipments till end November were already 3.6 mln tonnes, of which 2.4 mln tonnes to China. Barley quotes FOB Ukrainian have risen to USD 221 per tonne, and to USD240 per tonne for destination China. It is also rumoured that Ukraine sold new crop barley to China, reported prices are USD 275-280 CIF.
