Brewing news World: January-August beer production down in China, Germany, the US, and Russia

China’s August beer output was 37.8 mln hl, whereas in January-August it totalled 249.7 mln hl, minus 7.9% y/y, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their October report.

In Germany, August showed a beer production increase of 2%, the total for January-August was 60.5 mln hl – 5.1% less y/y. The German Brauerbund published the result of an opinion poll of its members. They claim a loss of 16% beer sales in the first half of 2020. It shows the brewers‘ nervousness, but wrong numbers (it was minus 6.6% as of the end of June). Beer-mixes (mainly radler) were plus 14% in August and 3.5 mln hl, or minus 3%, for the year.

Russia’s brewers produced 55.9 mln hl in January-August, plus 3.9% y/y.

In the USA, domestic tax-paid beer production was 14.5 mln bbls in August, plus 1.2% y/y. January-August output totalled 112.2 mln bbls., minus 0.6%. Beer imports in January-July were 19.7 mln bbls., minus 11.8% y/y.

Vietnam’s January-June beer output declined by 12.7% y/y, local sources reported.
