EU: Barley production forecast to total 53.873 mln tonnes in 2020/21

The EU Commission’s barley supply & demand balance report of August 27 forecasts the EU-27 barley production at 53.873 mln tonnes in 2020/21 versus 55.111 mln tonnes in 2019/20. The EU-28 output in 2019/20 is estimated at 63.091 mln tonnes, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their September report.

2020/21 barley consumption is forecast at 44.096 mln tonnes vs. 44.023 mln in 2019/20 with imports down to 1.377 mln tonnes from 1.864 mln in the previous season.

Barley exports including malt are seen at 10 mln tonnes vs. 10.495 mln in 2019/20 and ending stocks at 6.808 mln tonnes vs. 5.655 mln tonnes.
