Barley news EU: Barley crop prospects in Central Europe between rather poor and fair

Parts of Germany, Poland, and Central Europe (Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and Croatia) suffer from dryness since years, which reduced subsoil moisture to dangerously low levels, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their June report.

The region recorded no precipitation in April/first half of May, but luckily rains arrived in the second half of May to improve the topsoil moisture. They came already too late for early planted fields, but were still beneficial for most crops.

The quantity and quality prospects of the barley crops in the region are between rather poor and fair. The Gauger analysts expect out-of-region purchases of min. 250 thousand tonnes for Poland and 300 thousand tonnes for Central Europe.
