Barley news USA: Government approves changes to federal crop insurance for malting barley

Changes are coming to the crop insurance program for malting barley, KFGO News reported on June 26.

The USDA Risk Management Agency and the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation Board of Directors have approved changes to the malting barley endorsement for federal crop insurance.

U.S. Senator John Hoeven says utilizing the local market price for barley will help ensure fair compensation for malting barley. He adds, that he appreciates the FCIC and RMA Administrator Barbre for making the adjustment, which will ensure that this specific crop insurance policy reflects the actual prices producers are receiving, ensuring producers are compensated accurately.

The malting barley endorsement provides quality loss coverage for growers that produce malting barley under contract.
