Brewing news USA, OH: Five Brewing Company expanding to Perrysburg

After a successful start on Main Street in Sylvania, Inside the Five Brewing Company is expanding to Perrysburg, a move that the owners say their regulars had been asking for, WNWO NBC 24 reported on February 17.

The brewery has become a staple in downtown Sylvania after opening in May 2018.

"It feels great that what we're providing our customers, they enjoy to the fact that we feel the need to be able to expand somewhere else and kind of grow the business," said Brandon Fields, co-owner and brewer at Inside the Five.

But now the owners are hoping to take that hometown pub feel to another downtown suburb.

"It's a very great, small downtown, great community and there's kind of a lot of parallels in terms of downtown Sylvania and downtown Perrysburg so that just kind of drew us to that area."

Fields, a former Miami Dolphins punter, said that renovations to an old auto shop are already underway for the new location off of Louisiana Avenue in downtown Perrysburg.

The new pub will be larger than the original at about 5,000 square feet with a full kitchen, outdoor patio and private event space for parties.

The 18 beers on tap will still be brewed in Sylvania, but the Perrysburg location will have room for some new brews.

"We'll be expanding what we offer in terms of using various types of barrels. Any kind of spirit or wine barrel you can imagine, we'll probably end up using as well for both regular barrel-aged options and also sour beers as well."

Fields said it's exciting for the whole team. He and his wife are from northwest Ohio and co-owner Chris Morris, former Oakland Raiders center, is from right across the border in Southeast Michigan.

"It's just amazing, the fact that we grew up in this area, saw different changes happen as we were kind of growing up. We went away to different parts of the country for a while and come back and now be a part of the change, you know, be the people who are being the catalysts to help improve the area and improve the economy."

The owners hope to have the new location's doors open by the end of the summer just in time for football season.
