Barley news EU: Final barley crop result seen at around 62 mln tonnes

The final EU barley crop result is close to 62 mln tonnes, 6 mln tonnes higher than in 2018, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their November report.

The U.K. harvested 8.18 mln tonnes (as per Defra) vs. 6.5 mln tonnes last year.

AGRESTE increased the French crop once more to 13.6 mln tonnes, of which 4.4 mln tonnes spring barley.

AVANCES estimates the Spanish crop at 7.4 mln tonnes, almost 2 mln less than last year.

DRV- Raiffeisen reduced sharply it production estimate of German spring barley to 1.837 vs. last year’s 2.209 mln tonnes.

EU barley export business picked up last month. As per TAXUD 2.5 mln tonnes of new crop barley have been shipped by 28 October, 47% more than in 2018/19.

The major receivers were China (620 thousand tonnes), Saudi Arabia (575 thousand tonnes), and Japan (220 thousand tonnes).

TAXUD export statistics have come closer to reality, but are not fully in line with vessel lineup figures yet, the H. M. Gauger experts said.
