Barley news World: Prospects for both malting and feed barley markets are seen as bearish - analysts

Prospects for the world barley markets are bearish for both feed and malting barley, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier this month.

Barley surpluses in West and East Europe are substantial, and there will also be export pressure coming from Argentina, Australia and Canada.

The two largest importers of past years, China and Saudi Arabia, have purchased much less barley of crop 2019 than in former years. In case of a firmer maize market their imports may still pick up. And China needs definitely between 3.5 to 4.0 mln tonnes of malting barley from overseas, the analysts said.

In spite of larger barley feeding and an increased demand of malting barley there will be larger ending stocks by summer of 2020, as per IGC 27 mln tonnes vs. 24 mln in 2019.
