EU: Barley production forecast to increase to 60.818 mln tonnes this year

The EU-28 barley production is forecast at 60.818 mln tonnes in 2018, versus 58.14 mln tonnes last year, Coceral said in its June report.

Both area planted to barley and average yields are expected to increase this year: area to 12.436 mln ha from 12.115 mln last year and yields to 4.89 t/ha from 48 t/ha in 2017.

Spring barley production is expected to increase to 31.619 mln tonnes from 27.839 mln last year.

Both France and Germany – the EU’s largest barley producers – are expected to report larger crops this year, Coceral said.
