News from e-malt UK: Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries is upgrading the historic Marston’s brewery in Burton

Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries has spent GBP 2 million on an upgrade of the historic Marston’s brewery in Burton, The Publican posted on May 20.

The investment to the brewhouse and refrigeration systems follows the recent deal to supply beers including Marston’s Pedigree and Burton Bitter to JD Wetherspoon, Mitchells & Butlers and Interbrew.

The refit means the Burton site can now produce two million pints a week, an increase of 75 per cent on its previous output.

The grade two listed Victorian building has been kitted out with two new mash tuns and three brewing vessels, as well as state-of-the-art refrigeration equipment that eliminates all greenhouse gases, to comply with Kyoto Treaty emission levels.

Alistair Darby, W&DB Brands’ managing director, said: “The increase in capacity means Marston’s now brews one fifth of all premium cask ale sold in the UK and the refit also safeguards the future of the 170 employees at the site.”
