News from e-malt

USDA April estimation of World Barley Supply and Demand:
World barley production is projected to increase 7.0% to 152.4 MMT (million metric tonnes). US production is expected to increase by 0.3% to 6.1 MMT.
World barley supplies are estimated to increase by 3.1% to 174.0 MMT. US supplies are projected to increase by 14.9% to 8.7 MMT.
World barley trade is expected to decrease by 1.4% to 14.9 MMT. US exports are expected to increase 26.1% to .450 MMT.
World barley consumption is pegged to decrease by 2.0% to 144.1 MMT. US usage projected to increase by 13.4% to 5.7 MMT.
World barley carryover stocks are estimated to increase 38.4% to 30.0 MMT. US carryout is projected to increase by 16% to 3.04 MMT.

USDA lowered 2004-05 US barley feed and residual usage by 20 mbu (million bushels) and raised ending stocks by an equal amount to 140 mbu.
