Brewing news USA, MD: Rubber Soul Brewing Company closes its doors

Rubber Soul Brewing Company in Salisbury has closed its doors, the Delmarva Daily Times reported on April 24.

The brewery filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in late January, according to documents from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court Middle District of Pennsylvania. The brewery, founded in 2012, is located at 1930 Northwood Drive.

Rubber Soul made multiple business partnerships since its opening including downtown Salisbury's Roadie Joe's Bar and Grill.

In May 2018, the two local businesses announced they'd be opening a taproom inside the restaurant serving Rubber Soul brews.

At least six Rubber Soul beers were to be on tap at any one time, along with a selection of special and seasonal brews, said Jeremy Norton, Roadie Joe's owner in a previous interview with Delmarva Now. Patrons were to be able to fill growlers as well to take home beer to enjoy later.

This collaboration came about a year after Rubber Soul closed its taproom at Northwood Drive, citing plans to use the space for a canning operation.

Its distribution also spread across the Mid-Atlantic region.

In February, Penn Live reported that the Englewood Barn, a planned live music venue and restaurant to open in Hershey, Pennsylvania, was being delayed as its partnership with Rubber Soul was stopped after the company filed for bankruptcy and plans were being adjusted.

“We really liked the guys from Rubber Soul, but it just didn’t work out. There are no hard feelings, but it has forced us to rationalize the project a little bit,” Rick Russell, a partner in the Englewood Barn project, told Penn Live.

Englewood Barn's opening has now changed from the beginning of summer to October. The restaurant also plans to hire a brewer who will brew only at Englewood, according to Penn Live.

According to Roadie Joe's most recent beer menu list on BeerMenus.com, no Rubber Soul brews were listed.
