Brewing news Portugal: Carlsberg gains control of 60% of Portugal's Super Bock

Carlsberg will control 60% of Portugal's Super Bock after taking a stake in the beer group's owner.

The Danish brewer said on December 13 it has bought a 28.5% share in Viacer, the controller of Super Bock Group, which owns the Super Bock beer brand. Viacer will continue to have a 56% stake in Super Bock Group, with Carlsberg owning the rest.

Financial details were not disclosed.

Following the transaction Carlsberg's direct and indirect ownership in Super Bock Group is 60%. However, despite the increase, Super Bock will continue to be controlled by Viacer, which has the larger share in the group. Carlsberg said Super Bock will remain an associated company in its accounts.

Carlsberg Group CEO Cees 't Hart said of Super Bock: "It is a very strong business with a market leading position in Portugal, offering appealing long-term opportunities."

Super Bock Group holds a market share of 47% in Portugal. Its portfolio includes Super Bock, Carlsberg and Somersby.
