Malting news EU: EU malt exports in July-March 2017/18 decline by 4%

As per Taxud statistics, EU maltsters exported 1.624 mln tonnes of malt during July 1 – March 27, 2017/18, 4% less than a year ago, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their latest report released on March 29.

The largest destinations for EU malt were Japan (221,000 tonnes) and Vietnam (164,000 tonnes), both sharply down from last year, followed by Nigeria, Brazil and Venezuela.

In a comparison of 31 December, 2017, Eurostat figures show malt exports on that date 100,000 tonnes larger than Taxud. The conclusions are: firstly, there remains the question how correct are the published export numbers; and secondly, maybe exports are not lower than in the past campaign, the H. M. Gauger analysts said.
