Malting news World: Global barley malt trade forecast to increase by 100 thousand tonnes in 2017/18

In its latest report, the IGC forecasts the world trade of malt (in grain equivalent) to grow by almost 100,000 tonnes to 7.255 mln tonnes in 2017/18.

Argentina is expected to export 600 thousand tonnes of malt in grain equivalent in 2017/18 (630 thousand in 2016/17), Australia 650 thousand tonnes (unchanged from last season), Canada 800 thousand tonnes (810), the EU 3.55 mln tonnes (3.36 mln last season), Russia 125 thousand tonnes (75), the USA 450 thousand (590), China 450 thousand (465), Uruguay 375 thousand (425), others 255 thousand tonnes (155) (all figures - in grain equivalent).

In their previous estimate the IGC had forecast Argentina’s exports at 800,000 tonnes, but reduced the figure due to lower barley crop estimates.
