Brewing news USA, PA: Anvil Brewing’s brewpub holds grand opening in Pittsburg

Byron and Kristin Aldredge have converted the long-shuttered Pilgrim's Pride Feed Store at 115 Compress in Pittsburg into the Anvil Brewing brewpub and dance hall. The establishment had its grand opening Saturday, September 16, Longview News-Journal reports.

Getting the 100-year-old building, vacant since 1961, ready for business was a big project, said Byron Aldredge, who did most of the work on the building himself.

"We are at the end of the beginning of the work," he said last week. "Now, we are into building the business and improving the property with the revenues that come in."

The first floor will have seating for about 40 people and the upstairs dance hall at 3,000 square feet can seat 273 customers, he said.

The Anvil Pub serves a variety of dishes including gourmet flatbread pizzas, pastas, steaks and sandwiches. Aldredge said the pub has five craft beers on tap.

"We are working on getting bands booked in," said Aldredge, adding live music will be available on Friday and Saturday nights.

He and his wife, a real estate agent, have hired eight people for the business, which will be open from 3 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and for brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays.

The restaurant also will be open for "white linen dinners" from 5 to 8 p.m. Sundays for patrons who make reservations, Aldredge said.

The hours will be subject to change, he said.

"We are going to see how that goes," he said. "We will be expanding our hours as revenues dictate."

Aldredge said they also plan a fundraiser for Tropical Storm Harvey victims Sept. 30, with proceeds going to the Salvation Army.

The Aldredges, who also own the Steamboat Inn bed and breakfast in Jefferson, received $20,000 in seed money from Pittsburg City Hall economic development officials.

The couple won the incentive money this past year by successfully applying for the 2016 Pittsburg Innovative Entrepreneur Contest under the new business category. The competition aims to foster new business in the Camp County city.
