Barley news World: Barley trade forecast increased in USDA’s September report

USDA in its September report forecast global barley trade in 2017/18 at 25.210 mln tonnes, up from 24.41 mln forecast in August.

Russia barley export forecast is boosted 700,000 tonnes to 4.5 million on larger production.

Canada barley export forecast is up 300,000 tonnes to 1.3 million on a larger expected crop.

EU barley export forecast is down 300,000 tonnes to 6.2 million on lower production and increased competition from Ukraine and Russia.

Ukraine barley export forecast is up 200,000 tonnes to 4.6 million on larger exportable supplies.

Saudi Arabia barley import forecast is slashed 1.0 million tonnes to 10.0 million on data from published SAGO tenders and exporter shipments.

China barley import forecast is boosted 500,000 tonnes to 7.0 million on continued strong purchases of both feed and malting barley.

Libya barley import forecast is up 400,000 tonnes to 1.4 million on recent exporter data.

World barley trade in 2016/17 is forecast at 28.965 mln tonnes.

Global barley production forecast is up at 141.864 mln tonnes this month vs. 140.062 mln in the August report and 147.759 mln in 2016/17. Production forecasts are up for Canada (+250 thousand tonnes), India (+40 thousand tonnes), and Russia (+2 mln tonnes), and down for Argentina (-250 thousand tonnes) and the EU (-158 tousand tonnes).

World barley consumption is forecast at 147.582 mln tonnes (145.604 mln in August, 149.854 mln in 2016/17), and ending stocks at 18.612 mln (18.171 and 24.33 mln tonnes, respectively).
