Brewing news USA, TX: Infamous Brewing Company purchasing Solid Rock Brewing

Infamous Brewing Company, 4602 Weletka Dr., Austin, is in the process of purchasing Solid Rock Brewing, 2214 Bee Creek Road, Spicewood, the Community Impact Newspaper reported on May 26 citing Infamous owner Josh Horowitz.

The Hudson Bend-based brewery, founded in March 2013, features Hijack, a cream ale; IPA, an India pale ale with a hoppy flavor; Bugsy, an amber beer; and Sweep the Leg, a peanut butter stout.

“Infamous took control of operations at Solid Rock in March,” he said. “Currently, we are only brewing Infamous beers there. We will be resurrecting the Solid Rock brand but, for now, we are focusing on getting our brands out the door.”

Solid Rock, founded in 2011 by Steve Jones, Stephen McCarthy and Curt Webber, featured Big Drought Stout, a dark stout; Cho’Sen, a hybrid ale; Cornerstone, a cream ale; Dauntless, an IPA; and Roundhead Red, an Irish red ale.

Horowitz said the demand on Infamous beers is “so enormous” that he undertook a lease-to-own situation at the brewing facilities of Solid Rock.

Until the lease situation with Solid Rock evolved, Infamous rented space in a Dallas-area brewery to add production capability.

“We will be negotiating a formal purchase agreement [with Solid Rock] in the near future,” he said.

Horowitz said he intends to reopen the Solid Rock taproom in the future and has “big plans” for the property.

“We will expand the taproom and open a restaurant on the property to make it a destination-style location,” he said.

Additional plans include adding wine and cider service at both locations as well as a shuttle to run between the two brewery sites—Hudson Bend and Spicewood, Horowitz said.

Although the Solid Rock brewery will retain its namesake, Horowitz said the proposed restaurant will be called Infamous Outpost and serve “simple but delicious” food. He said he is working with his management team on the particulars of the eatery.

“We will continue to grow, expand and produce exceptional products,” Horowitz said.
