China & Saudi Arabia: China and Saudi Arabia represent more than half of barley demand in the world
Two countries - Saudi Arabia and China - represent more than half of the barley demand in world markets; Saudi Arabia is the No. 1 feed barley buyer, China the largest malting barley and important feed barley buyer, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their May report.
In recent months it looked like a sizeable reduction of both countries' barley imports, with an effect on barley price levels. As the total volume of world trade is between 25 and 30 mln tonnes, a minus of approx. 5 mln tonnes cannot be recovered by shipments to other destinations. However, reality may turn out different, the analysts said.
