Brewing news USA, OK: Welltown Brewing planning to open in downtown Tulsa

Welltown Brewing is a new brewery planning to open in downtown Tulsa, although they have not released where that is just yet, KTUL reported.

The owners, Jeremy Diamond and his father-in-law Paul Whitham are in the final stages of locking in their location.

They wanted a space that would work better with their tap room focus and be cost efficient in the heart of Tulsa.

“We’re the guys that are really going to focus in on the tap room creating a community space where you can come, grab a pint and sit right across from your friend at one of our community tables,” Diamond said in one of his social media videos.

Since they don’t have the keys to their building, they plan to announce their location in April and start the demolition process as soon as possible.

“We’ve literally been waiting for this for two years,” Diamond said. “Most people think oh yeah you can just get up and get going well there’s a lot of red tape involved.”

Opening a brewery wasn’t necessarily a lifelong dream.

“This restaurant had asked if I could do a beer for them and I said my father-in-law is a home brewer,” Diamond said. “That was kind of the first start of us getting going is us talking about doing a beer for this restaurant and then it turned into if we’re doing one beer maybe we could do more.”

Their brewer is Gene Collins.

He’s been a brewing at home for almost 20 years and is a member of the Fellowship of Oklahoma Ale Makers.

Now that Oklahoma has modernized their liquor laws he is excited to share his original craft beer without the 3.2 restriction.

“I’ve been wanting to make the transition from hard-core amateur to professional,” said Collins.

Diamond said he plans to open Welltown Brewing by the end of 2017.
