Optimize your hoppy lagers: an intense tropical bouquet with the new SafLager™ SH-45 yeast
Dear clients,
Unlock the secret to hoppy lagers
Discover a lager yeast that loves hops as much as you do!
Introducing SafLager™ SH-45: the ideal yeast for enhancing hop thiol release in lager beers
The newest addition to the Fermentis SafLager™ range, this strain was selected for its ability to express aromatic compounds from the raw materials in beer, specifically hops.
Thanks to its capacity to release and esterify thiols, SafLager™ SH-45 is a great choice for expressing hop potential in beer. As a result, lagers crafted with SafLager™ SH-45 may exhibit enhanced fruitiness and intensified citrus and tropical notes.
Key Features
- SafLager™ SH-45 stands out for its impressive capacity to release hop precursors, more specifically, its ability to release free thiols from glutathionylate (G-) precursors found in raw materials such as hops.
- By pairing SafLager™ SH-45 with appropriate hops containing thiol precursors (particularly certain aromatic hop varieties), you can increase the intensity of tropical fruit aromas — such as passionfruit and grapefruit — in your beer.
- Fermentation Temperature: the ideal fermentation temperature for SafLager™ SH-45 is between 12°C to 18°C (53.6°F to 64.4°F)
- Apparent Attenuation: 77-82%
- Dosage: 80 - 120 g/hl (0.11 - 0.16 oz/gal)
- E2U™ certified (Easy-To-Use): our E2U™ certification guarantees the same results whether you choose to rehydrate or pitch directly.
- Available packaging sizes: 11.5g, 100g, 500g, 2.5kg, and 10kg.
Beer styles & brewing recommendations
A must-try for crafting hop-forward lagers, SafLager™ SH-45 is ideal for your next New Zealand Pilsner, India Pale Lager (IPL), Cold IPA or any other hoppy lager.
“Thanks to SafLager™ SH-45’s ability to free aromatic precursors and release fruit notes with higher yield, brewers require less hops and primary materials for the same effect or more.” Philippe Janssens, Fermentis R&D Technical Manager – Beer & Brewing
